Pavingstones

No, this is not recommended by the Concrete Masonry & Hardscape Association. Bedding sand should be screeded smooth before placing pavers. Compaction should only occur once the pavers are placed.

No. In general, pavingstones used in areas subject to vehicular traffic need to be:

  1. 80mm minimum thick.
  2. Have a minimum Aspect Ratio of 3:1 (length to thickness).
  3. The Concrete Hardscape & Masonry Association recommends the use of a herringbone pattern for vehicular installations.

60mm pavers can be used in many residential driveway installations. Contact ORCO for more information.

Available products include metal trays and pre-applied fiberglass mesh. The metal trays are available in specific formats. These trays are adhered to the back of the porcelain on site prior to placing the porcelain adding to installation cost and installation time. A popular option is the use of fiberglass mesh backing. Units arrive to the project site ready to install, reducing additional handling.

Yes. The Concrete Masonry & Hardscape Association provides guidelines for low-permeability conditions. These applications typically require the addition of underdrains and geotextile fabric to ensure proper drainage and system performance.

ORCO strongly recommends using either a wet set concrete edge or a bond beam to interface between hardscape and softscape surfaces. Additionally, plastic edgers can be utilized, but may require additional maintenance.

No, the Concrete Masonry & Hardscape Association recommends placement of a concrete beam used to separate the asphalt and pavers.

Per the Concrete Masonry & Hardscape Association, rates can range from 100 to 1000 inches per hour, depending on base aggregate gradation, joint width, joint fill and maintenance. Based on studies, even with sediment accumulation, systems are able to drain 10 inches per hour, which exceeds most stormwater design requirements.

Utilizing mortar set pavers over concrete is an effective method where a paver pattern results in poor interlock, or if the pavers being used do not meet the proper aspect ratio. ORCO offers various OBP products like OBP Poly Deck Mud for height adjustments up to 4″ and OBP Poly VBM Bonder an ANSI A118.15 bonding mortar that provides the highest bond strength of the VBM line.
