1.04  QUALITY ASSURANCE

 
  A. Submittals
 
    1. Certificates of compliance with all applicable ASTM and UBC standards shall be submitted on all products specified herein.
 
    2. Sample Specimens: Include number and type of samples needed; include mortar ribbon samples, if desired.
 
 

B.

Sample Panel
 
    1. Construct an approximate 6 feet long by 4 feet high mock-up panel for representation of completed masonry, joint tooling, design details, and workmanship.
 
    2. Panel shall / shall not be part of the wall system.
 
 

C.

Inspections: Noncontinuous inspection allowed. Special inspection per UBC Section 1701.
 
   

Testing is not usually performed unless required by certain code jurisdictions or for masonry utilizing higher than allowable stresses defined in the applicable code. To include or hide Section D, the Tests section below, select below.

PART 2 - MATERIALS

 

2.01  CONCRETE MASONRY UNITS

 
 

A.

Loadbearing concrete masonry units shall conform to UBC Standard 21-4, Grade N, and ASTM C 90. All units shall be Normalweight, Mediumweight/ Lightweight / 1900psi or / 3750psi (high Stress) net psi, as manufactured by Orco Block Co., Inc.

  B.

  1. Orco Burnish is a machine ground block with less then 1/16th of an inch removed from the surface of the unit. This exposes the natural beauty of the aggregate inside the block. Burnished units go well as either interior or exterior finished surfaces and can be ground on all four sides which offers versatility to your project.
  2. Orco ShotBlast is a bead blasted surface finish produced in an enclosed dust free environment in our manufacturing facility. The process exposes the aggregate and cement and gives the block a weathered texture.
  3. Orco Burst gives block an integrally colored variegated surface. It is produced by blending two or more colors into a block. The burst unit offers a beautiful marbled look to the overall surface and can be provided in any texture.

All glazed masonry units shall be Premier Glaze units manufactured by Premier Block Corporation.

  1. Concrete masonry unit for glazing shall be lightweight, conforming to ASTM C 90, Type I.

D.

All high density prefinished concrete masonry units shall be ULTRA® BURNISHED masonry units manufactured by Premier Block Corporation.  
 
    1. Units with factory applied, heat-treated acrylic finish shall be Premier ULTRA® BURNISHED units, conforming to ASTM C 744 with respect to adhesion, abrasion, color change, and resistance to crazing, and ASTM C 67 with respect to freezing and thawing. 2.02  MORTAR

 
 

A.

Mortar shall be Orco Blended Products Preblended Masonry Mortar Type S / Type M conforming to the proportion and property specifications of ASTM C 270, as manufactured by Orco Blended Products, Highland, CA.
     

2.03  GROUT

 
 

A.

Preblended Grout: Orco Blended Products, Concrete 30/70, 2000 / 3000 / 5500 psi. Grout Mix manufactured by Orco Blended Products may be used per manufacturer’s specifications.
 
 

B.

Grout shall conform to UBC Standard 21-19 or ASTM C 476, proportions per UBC Table 21-B.

 
 

C.

Use of fine or course grout shall be per UBC Table 21-C.
 
 

2.04  REINFORCING STEEL

 
 
 

A.

Reinforcing bars shall conform to ASTM A 615 [This is the most commonly used. Other standards include: A 616 A 617 A 706 A 767 A 775], Grade 60.
