SPECIAL NOTES
SPLIT BLOCK UNITS
Orco split block is a structural concrete masonry material that
conforms to standards for hollow load bearing concrete masonry units
as published by the Concrete Masonry Association and exceeds A.S.T.M.
C-90-96 Standards and UBC Standard 21-4. Note. Split block units
are also available in ultra light (85lbs. Per cubic foot). See ultra
light section for details.
Split face block starts out looking very similar to a precision
block with an extra wide face shell.
After the block has aged for a specified time , then the block is
split to achieve the split face block texture..When ordering please
specify if you need the block split on one side or both sides as
they are manufactured from different molds. Since there are many
shapes, sizes, and colors from which to choose, split face as a
rule is a specific order. Please place your order several weeks
prior to expected delivery. We can help you to design a project
utilizing the split face
that we do keep in stock. Some blocks made in split face are not
made in precision block and
vice versa.
SPLIT ONE SIDE AND ONE SIDE ONE END UNITS
Split one side units are made in 4", 6", 10" and
12" wide, 4", 6" and 8" high. Consult the drawing
in the section and your local representative for additional information.
SPLIT TWO SIDES
These units are a nominal size and manufactured in many shapes and
sizes. Split two sides and one end are also available. See the drawings
in this section for a better understanding.
SPLIT FACE TEXTURE
To achieve the smooth split face texture we use a four way hydraulic
splitter. It has one blade on each side as well as one on top and
one on the bottom. By using hydraulic pressure at the proper settings
we can control the split face unit on the outside edge to form a
relatively clean edge in which the mason can lay the block with
increased accuracy, thus the texture forms in the middle of the
unit. Sometimes the aggregate is more concentrated in one area of
the block and
other times it is further back inside the unit. No two block look
alike due to the splitting action which enhances the appearance.
HIGH-STRESS SPLIT FACE UNITS
Hi-stress split face units come in 8", 10", and 12"
widths, 4", 6" and 8" in height, split on one and
two sides are made in 3750 net P.S.I.. Limited stock is available
in grey. Other colors are available upon request.
COLOR OF SPLIT FACE UNITS
Every effort is made to insure color consistency by Orco Block,
however, it must be understood that we are using materials from
the earth and cannot control color variation in the cement and sand
which may change the block color slightly from run to run. We guarantee
the color only to range of color. For larger projects, we recommend
that you have your block manufactured in “one run”.
This will help to control the color range. We have a wide variety
of colors from which to make your selection. There may be an additional
charge for the color you select. Refer to the Price List for this
information. Orco Block recommends using matching mortar when using
colored split block. Please call your architectural representative
for additional information.
